While Meggie and David Blue are from another planet, they're a lot like Earth kids, with similar hopes and dreams, and can't wait to grow up. BUT they also have GROSSLY UNIQUE qualities, such as blue streaks in their hair that pop up randomly and language skills that sound like nothing on this planet. The story takes these alien kids, along with their mother and grandfather, by accident, to a far planet in which the society is not only oppressive but hostile to individual freedom. People are kept submissive through drugs and brainwashing. The Blues, who have spent time in free societies recognize the upside-down-ness of this world. They're almost helpless to do anything, but do what they can, plan their escape, and vow to help others.

I liked that in the middle of the book Maggie gets her blue hair and it's brightest. I would recommend this book to 8-19 year olds maybe .
I don't normally read this type of book. But I am a Ruth White fan, so I bought the book anyway. I was a little disappointed at first with the writing style, then I got lost in the story. I thought the story was great. I felt like I was actually in the story. And in the end, I didn't want the characters to leave me. Like another reviewer, I wanted an explanation of how these different characters from various times in history could all be living at the same time on the parallel earth, but it wasn't enough to make me dislike the book. Overall, I enjoyed the story.
Neat story, different from Ruth White's usual books but still well written and full of meaning. An interesting parallel universe story book.
I would recommend this book to people who like adventures,heart,and family.I loved this book !It had all the qualities that I like in a book.
This book is very interesting and I loved reading it. I would recommend this book to any age! If you like mystery/realistic fiction this is a great book for you.
very enjoyable read. very interesting how the children react to living in a completely different world than their own .
My daughter read this book and loved it. Her only regret was that it didn't last longer. As she's an avid reader she just sails through books and this is one she dearly loved and passed along to her twin sister.
